If you ever wanted to see a display of Honor and Sportsmanship, look no further than Sunday's expression of these core values by England's own
Brian Davis. There he was in the 18th fairway on the 72nd hole Sunday needing to make birdie to force a sudden death playoff with tour veteran
Jim Furyk. He holes the putt and they head back to the 18th tee. Almost in the same spot he decided to hit 6-iron again. He pulled it left into the green side hazard. After struggling all oh his options and with what type of shot he was going to play he decides to play if from there. This is where the core values kick in. You can read the
full article here to find out more.
During the act of his shot he glazed a loose impediment in the hazard, which is a two shot penalty under the rules of golf. But get this, he was the only one that saw it. After hitting the shot, he realized what he had done and asked the rules official to come over and find out what his options were again. After another lengthy discussion, he called the penalty on himself and consequently loosing the tournament to Jim Furyk.
Only in golf can the player call an infraction of the rules on themselves. How many of us would have done the same thing. Few I would guess.
